This year's Oscars Slate Filled With Fan Favorites, Surprises, Slights and Historic First in Supporting Actress Category

Nominations for the 97th Annual Oscars® are out and this year’s slate is filled with some fan favorites, some surprises, some slights and an historic first in the Supporting Actress Category as Karla Sophia Garcon ((Emilia Perez) becomes the first transgender person to receive the nomination from the Academy.

2025 Oscars Nominations Hosts
Bowen Yang and Rachel Sennott host the announcement of the 97th Oscars® nominations, on Thursday, January 23, 2025.

After several postponements due to the LA Wildfires, the Academy’s nomination announcement date of Thursday, January 24th held firm.  This year the Academy had a highly active voter participation, with members submitting ballots from 93 countries.  Active members of the Academy are eligible to vote for the winners in all 23 categories beginning Tuesday, February 11, through Tuesday, February 18.
