Sweet home for Chicago Blues? Beginning to look a lot like reality. After plans and funds raised to house a Blues Museum at Chicago’s historic Navy Pier fell through, the concept of a Blues museum for the city that underscores american Blues was looking mighty blue. But not any more!
An infusion of new funding and a locale in the famed Chicago Loop have given a huge boost to the reality that if you dream it, it will come. It appears that $25 million of the budgeted $30 million is close to being raised in equity capitol, thanks to prior commitments that dissipated with the previous planned locale. The new locale will be located at 25 East Washinton Street — currently owned by private investment firm Trump Group of Aventura, Fla. (no relation to President Trump).

Called The Chicago Blues Experience, according to a story in today’s Crain’s Chicago Business, “Chicago blues will soon have a downtown museum dedicated to telling its story.” The Chicago Blues Experience will be a for-profit privately run, 50,000-square-foot facility slated to open in spring 2019. Plans are for the museum to be a Grammy-affiliate (a la the new National Blues Museum in St. Louis), and be interactive, house a music/entertainment venue, a small bites restaurant/cafe and more.

The location is ideal as it is in close proximity to Millenium Park, the new home for the Chicago Blues Festival – billed as the largest free blues festival in the world.
