We Are Women, Hear Us Roar

Today is Women’s Equality Day yet, women still roar for equality. This month marks the centennial of a women’s right to vote and nearly a half century since the declaration of the dedicated Day. While the women’s movement has made gargantuan strides over the past 100 years, they are still roaring for equality.

The iconic song by Australian pop singer Helen Reddy, became the Anthem for the 1970s feminist movement. It’s lyrics roar loudly to this day. Reddy penned the lyrics and songwriter Ray Burton came up with the tune.

Helen Reddy performed her hit song “I Am Woman” at the 1973 Grammy Awards® . Later that evening, she won the Grammy for best female performance. Here’s an excerpt from her acceptance speech.
