The NYE Crystal Ball and NYC are ready to sparkle atop One Times Square to ring in the new Decade. Each year the Times Square Alliance, NYPD and New York City prepare for millions of visitors converging on the 42nd Street area to celebrate the upcoming year.

The iconic New Years Eve Crystal Ball receives a touch up each year.  The iconic Ball weighs 11,875 pounds and is covered with a total of 2,688 Waterford Crystal triangles that range in size and in length. For 2020 the Ball adds 192 new themed Waterford crystals.

THE DESIGN FOR TIMES SQUARE 2020

The New Gift of Goodwill Design of Three Pineapples. 192 Waterford Crystal triangles introduce the new design which signifies the traditional image of hospitality and goodwill.

The Gift of Harmony – 192 are of small rosette cuts flowing into each other in beautiful harmony.

The Gift of Serenity – 192 are of butterflies flying peacefully above a crystal meadow capturing the spirit of serenity

The Gift of Kindness – 192 are consisting of a circle of rosettes symbolizing unity with the fronds reaching out in an expression of kindness

The Gift Of Wonder – 192 are composed by a faceted starburst inspiring our sense of wonder.

The Gift of Fortitude – 192 are of diamond cuts on either side of a crystal pillar to represent the inner attributes of resolve, courage and spirit necessary to triumph over adversity

The Gift of Imagination – The remaining 1,728 triangles are with a series of intricate wedge cuts that are mirrored reflections of each other inspiring our imagination

The Times Square NYE Celebration has Socially Sparked® our lives since 1904. Today, millions of people from all over the world witness the sparkling Waterford Crystal Times Square New Year’s Eve Ball — either in person, via television or via the internet and livestreaming.

SCIENCE TEACHERS TO LEAD THE COUNTDOWN FOR CLIMATE CHANGE

Climate Change emerged as 2019’s most-talked-about issue,  It is only fitting that Times Square New Year’s Eve ring in the new Decade with special guests who have Socially Sparked our lives with original, innovative ideas that address the climate crisis. The evening’s Special Guests are two award-winning NYC public high school science teachers and four of their students who will stand on stage representing the climate crisis and the ongoing efforts occurring around the world.

The evening’s Special Guests will push the crystal button on the main stage in the center of Times Square signifying the lowering of the Times Square New Year’s Eve Crystal Ball.
