An artsy, hip gigantic-size shoe exhibit on display at iconic Bloomingdale’s (Bloomies) NYC flagship locale is turning heads and feet of New Yorkers and tourists. The new exhibit is reminiscent of Bloomies of yesteryear when the legendary retailer was known as the “It” department store for cutting-edge fashion, pop culture, splashy campaigns, celebrity and New York City.

Artsy, hip, giant-size shoe exhibit sparks Bloomies

Nine larger-than-life artist-designed shoes are currently on display to promote the retailer’s redesigned shoe floor. A mix of mosaics, graffiti, Broadway Playbills and even a Statue-of-Liberty-inspired heel, the giant shoes can be seen in the storefront windows and on the 5th Floor, where the shoe department now lives in it’s 26,000 square feet of space.

A return to glory days indeed. Going head to head with the competition, the revitalized shoe department and accompanying larger-than-life shoe display is just one of several initiatives to re-ignite New York City’s and the world’s love affair with the iconic department store brand.

Bloomingdale’s Spring Ad campaign “Heart of N.Y.” begins April 23 and will include wild postings throughout the city, a subway takeover and wrapped Hamptons Ambassador buses. The ad campaign showcases the stories of well-known New Yorkers who represent the energy of the city and the emotional connection people have with Bloomingdale’s. New Yorkers include Sarah Jessica Parker, Christy Turlington Burns, Alan Cumming, Yankees’ shortstop Didi Gregorius and Elaine Welteroth. The print campaign is just one drop of the giant splash. Dedicated windows, visuals, and customized shopping bags complete the splashes of the campaign.

THE BACK STORY

The legendary retailer’s founders, Joseph and Lyman Bloomingdale, first Socially Sparked® the world in 1872 with their Lower East Side Bazaar filled with a wide variety of European fashions. Next came their visionary move uptown in 1886 to 59th Street and Lexington Avenue. The 1900s brought the world splashy ad campaigns, high end fashion show and gala events, must-have premiums with the first designer shopping bags and of course – the cutting-edge fashion of designers. A total immersive experience and a must destination. Today we call that experiential marketing.
