Women's Right to Choose

In 2023 women still must roar for equality. Today, August 26th is the annual Women’s Equality Day. I repeat. Today is the annual Women’s Equality Day marking how the 19th Amendment Socially Sparked® our lives, especially women. Yet, while it is 2023, women still must roar for their right to choose. Women still must roar to make decisions about their own body and if and when they choose to reproduce. A CENTURY LATER, WOMEN MUST ROAR LOUDER for EQUALITY!

A LITTLE BIT LOUDER NOW!

The hit song by Australian songstress Helen Reddy “I Am Woman” became the anthem for the Women’s Movement back in the 70s.  You read this right — the 1970s. Nearly 50 years later, whether we sing, speak out, march or advocate, apparently nothing is loud enough — Still.

Women Still Must Roar for the Right to Choose

I have been writing about women’s equality and women’s rights for decades. I have been  featuring my stories on Socially Sparked News’ Advocacy page since I created the blog in November 2016. I thought a look back at my words on women and equality over the last 5 years of this blog would best demonstrate the milestones I thought women were making over the last century and serve as yet another wake up call.

THE DAWNING OF A NEW DECADE OF SOCIAL JUSTICE

At the end of December 2019 and the promise of a new decade I wrote:

“The Dawning of a new decade of social justice begins with January. The month stands for social justice around the globe. The new Decade holds exciting promise for societal issues that prominently took center stage and Socially Sparked® our lives over the last few years. Equality, immigration, human rights, #metoo, black lives matter, climate changegun violence, lgbtq and more.”

SALUTING INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY EVERY DAY OF THE WEEK

This year’s Women’s International Day campaign theme #BreakTheBias runs all year long to amplify the message — Collective action and shared responsibility to encourage further people to commit to helping forge an inclusive world.

Together, we can all break the bias – on International Women’s Day (IWD) and beyond. Collectively, each one of us can help make change happen. Collectively, each one of us can help to create a gender equal world.”

WOMEN’S EQUALITY DAY YET WOMEN STILL ROAR

“Today is Women’s Equality Day yet, women still roar for equality. This month marks the centennial of a women’s right to vote and nearly a half century since the declaration of the dedicated Day. While the women’s movement has made gargantuan strides over the past 100 years, they are still roaring for equality.”

UNITED THEY ROAR FOR WOMEN’S EQUALITY +

“New decade brings new energy and unity to The Women’s March as they rise up and roar in solidarity for their rights. Women around the country and across the globe bonded together to rise up and roar for women’s reproductive rights, climate justice and immigration rights. The underlying chant was to get out and vote this November.”

THE WOMEN’S MOVEMENT RE-ENERGIZES WITH NEW 2018 FOCUS

“The Women’s Movement re-energizes with new 2018 focus – The Polls. More specifically, mobilizing people to register and vote aiming at the mid-term elections and beyond. It’s evident that yesterday’s Women’s Marches around the country are not a one-hit wonder, but rather a full-blown movement –one that will Socially Spark our lives for years.”

POWER TO THE POLLS in 2018 clearly was not enough as evident in the almost likely threat of a reversal of Roe v. Wade. My Socially Sparked close to this feature story said:

“In a recent Socially Sparked News feature on the Women’s March round two, we asked if and how year two would Socially Spark our lives? The country and the world are getting their answer — A Re-Energized Women’s Movement Roaring in 2018. “

WHY WOMEN ROAR FOR EQUALITY

In 2017 after seeing the show This One’s For the Girls in NYC I wrote this feature that began the Socially Sparked theme over the years: Why Women Roar.

“Why do women roar for equality? It is incredulous that in 2017, this question still needs to be answered. But, after a recent personal encounter with a millennial young woman, I realized the importance of reiterating to the masses of men and women why women roar for equality. Our next generations of women fully need to comprehend why they are partaking in events as The Women’s March”

2022 yet women still must roar

We are well past the centennial mark for a women’s right to vote and yet, I am still  dumbfounded that in 2023 women do not have the right to choose their reproductive health care. The continued controversy around the landmark decision Roe v. Wade and the reversal of that decision is still making plenty of noise. Apparently not enough from those that this reversal will negatively and somewhat dangerously impact. In 2023, and certainly for the 2024 Presidential election, women must still roar louder!  — Abbe is Socially Sparked for Choice! Tweet us @sosparkednews & @asparks01

The most powerful way for women to further equality and ensure reversals in progress like Roe v. Wade never happen again is for all women and men to VOTE in the mid-term elections, VOTE in the primary elections, help turn out the vote, an VOTE, VOTE, VOTE!
