Make music more intensely and more beautifully as a response to violence is the Socially Sparked Quote of the Week by American Composer/Conductor Leonard Bernstein.

make more music is our reply to violence

Leonard Bernstein has Socially Sparked® the world over. He was among the first conductors born and educated in the US to receive worldwide acclaim as a composer, conductor, author, educator, musician, activist, cultural ambassador and humanitarian.

Among his multitude of accomplishments, world peace was a particular concern of Bernstein. Speaking at Johns Hopkins University in 1980 and the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York in 1983, he described his vision of global harmony. His “Journey for Peace” tour to Athens and Hiroshima with the European Community Orchestra in 1985, commemorated the 40th anniversary of the atom bomb.

Happy Birthday Mr. Bernstein! For the last two years, the world has been celebrating the Bernstein Centennial. Today, August 25, 2019 marks the official end to the 100th Birthday Celebration.  In the maestro’s honor, our quote of the week is from the one and only.

“This will be our reply to violence: to make music more intensely, more beautifully, more devotedly than ever before.” — Leonard Bernstein, American Maestro

Violence and more specifically, gun violence, is plaguing our country of late. War is still a serious threat around the world. And, what better way to celebrate the extraordinary maestro’s centennial celebration finale than to spotlight his timeless quote. Let’s all make music and better music, not violence and war.
